Tokyo Art Beat FAQ

Thank you for using Tokyo Art Beat.
These FAQ provide information on how to publish your event and venue listings on Tokyo Art Beat. After reading over the following details, please send us your art event information.
TAB is run by a passionate and hardworking team, including many volunteers, who strive to publish information on as many events as possible. However, since our team is small we regret that we cannot take individual inquiries by telephone. We do read all emails sent to us, but please be aware that in principle it is not possible to respond individually to them.

Publication of Event Information - General

What are the basic criteria for event listings on TAB?

Are there any criteria for the events that get published?

If your event is happening in Tokyo or its surrounding areas, and is an art or design event, then it is very possible that it can be published on TAB. However, a lot depends on whether the event venue is already listed on TAB or not.
We also have to make judgments based on the timing of when we receive the event information (e.g. just before the event starts or if the event has already started, etc.), the type of event it is, and the event’s duration, and so on.
For events that are just about to start or that have already started, there are situations where we can respond quickly, but the structure of our technical system also can make it difficult to publish some events. There are also cases where we are not able to publish listings of events such as auctions, one-day only events, and lectures, seminars or talks with limited numbers of participants, and so on.

<Example 1>
The venue is already listed on TAB and the type of event is art or design.
- It is very likely that we can publish listing information on this event.

<Example 2>
The event is happening at a venue that regularly has many art-related events but is not yet listed on TAB.
- Since it takes additional time to register the venue’s information, there may be cases where we cannot publish a listing of the event.

<Example 3>
The venue is not yet listed on TAB and it runs only a small amount of art-related events.
- Unfortunately, for art events happening at this kind of venue we may not be able to publish the information.

Does it cost money to have an event listed?

Publication of event information is free of charge.

When is event information published?

For events judged suitable for publication, listings are published typically about one week prior to the event.

I searched for an event using the search engine but I cannot find it. I don’t understand if it was published or not.

It can take two or three days before the information shows up in search engines. Please also be aware that we are unable to respond to inquiries about publication.

I would like to have a dance, performance or music event listed on TAB. Is this possible?

Since TAB operates as an information portal focusing mostly on art and design events, there may be cases where we cannot publish information on other kinds of events.

Can TAB contact me to let me know my requested event listing was published?

Please be aware that in principle we cannot respond to individual emails requesting event information listings.

Can I make inquiries by telephone?

Due to the limits of our resources, please refrain from making inquiries by telephone.

Checking the event information you sent to TAB

Criteria for venue listings

What are the basic criteria for publication?

TAB deals with venues in Tokyo or surrounding areas. Please send in your venue information along with finalized event information.

Galleries and art spaces with many frequent art-related events may take some time to be listed on TAB, though we try to prioritize publication. However, due to the large volume of requests that TAB receives, we are unable to promise whether your requested information will be published or when. Also, please be aware that we usually cannot respond individually to requests.

Unfortunately, for venues with few or infrequent art-related events, it is possible that we may be unable to publish your information.

Tokyo Art Map FAQ

I want to advertise in Tokyo Art Map.

Thank you for considering advertising in Tokyo Art Map. The Map is a free paper that spreads valuable Tokyo cultural information to residents and visitors to the city. Published bimonthly, there are one hundred thousand copies printed every issue. Through advertising in Tokyo Art Map you are helping guarantee the continued future of this essential Tokyo resource. Please contact us for further inquiries.

I want to publish information in Tokyo Art Map.

The Tokyo Art Map features information on events mainly at venues which are popular with visitors to the main Tokyo Art Beat website. We usually cannot accept outside requests for publication.

Where can I pick up the Tokyo Art Map?

Tokyo Art Map is distributed to around 550 places, but there are cases where only limited people can have access to those pick-up sites, such as at universities or special event venues. Once all copies have been taken we cannot usually supply more, and how long this takes depends largely on how many copies are distributed to certain sites, the locations of those sites, and the time when people go to pick up a copy. Due to this unpredictability we do not make public detailed information or suggestions on where or when to pick up the Art Map. However, we do make efforts to respond promptly and accurately to specific questions and queries via media like Twitter, asking, for example, where someone can pick up the Tokyo Art Map in Shibuya.
