Maywa Denki is an artistic unit produced by Nobumichi Tosa. They wear blue work clothes and call their works "products" and their live performances "product demonstrations." They have created various nonsense machines and presented them at live performances and exhibitions reminiscent of small and medium-sized businesses that contributed to Japan's rapid development.
This time it is a collaboration with the company Ze Energy, which is represented by the owner of Earth + Gallery. Ze Energy has been working with Maywa Denki's concepts of "manufacturing" and "business development" using art as a starting point. There will be works using organic waste charcoal produced by Ze Energy's innovative carbonization technology for some of Maywa Denki's electronic musical instruments.
In this exhibition, Meiwa Denki presents their rarely seen prototypes. An unfinished prototype reflects the techniques employed to realize a particular idea, the engineering mechanism employed, and the materiality fetish.
