Yasuko Toyoshima

This is the first-ever museum exhibition of works by Yasuko Toyoshima (1967-), an artist who has been exploring matters of identity and the relationship between the human individual and society, inspired by her interest in different social systems since 1990. By reinterpreting uniquely the value concepts of school education, art, and economy that we have internalized, Toyoshima highlights the “individual” that is surrounded by these circumstances. In an age that is dominated by a sense of stagnation, her work assumes increasing importance. To give a comprehensive overview of Toyoshima’s oeuvre, the exhibition features an array of works ranging from early to new ones, including also reinterpretations of previous works.
