The University Art Museum is located on the campus of Tokyo University of the Arts. The collection consists of approximately 30,000 items, including 23 national treasures and important cultural properties, including works that were collected as "reference materials" for education and research before the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, the predecessor of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, was established in 1887, as well as works left behind by successive teachers and graduates. The collection also includes self-portraits by artists who later became masters, such as "Salmon" by Yuichi Takahashi, "Kannon (Goddess of Mercy)" by Yoshigai Kano, and "Preface Dance" by Shoen Uemura. There are no permanent exhibitions, but once or twice a year the museum holds an exhibition of some of its collection, as well as special exhibitions on various themes, student graduation projects, and exhibitions commemorating the retirement of faculty members.
