Honda Artists Studio, known as Honda Kobo in Japanese, is a shared collective creative and cultural space built out of a former Showa-era kimono clothing store building which was refurbished and retrofitted by members of the local and creative communities. The first floor houses the streetside gallery.
Based in Shiogama City on the coast of Miyagi Prefecture, Honda Kobo, opened in 2023, was built out of a shared common initiative to bring new life to Shiogama’s historical neighborhood of Kitahama, especially after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.
